Portugal started the match brightly and had the first chance of the game when Cristiano Ronaldo fired wide from a free-kick. The Portuguese continued to press forward but were unable to find a way through the Czech defense.

Against the run of play, the Czech Republic took the lead in the 45th minute. Lukas Provod picked up the ball on the edge of the area and unleashed a stunning strike that flew into the top corner of the net.

Portugal reacted well to going behind and came close to equalizing on several occasions. However, they were unable to find a way past Czech goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik.
